Blog News

Yes, I realize it's been forever. I'm sorry.

But it's a New Year! A fresh start, a new beginning - and I can really use it. This last year has been pretty rough; looking back, most of the major events in my life were negative ones. And in the last couple months, everything sort of fell apart and I lost my grip on my own life a little bit. That sounds alarming. I should mention, I mean it in a keeping-on-top-of-things way. My mental health is still relatively intact.

I wouldn't say I have a clean slate - I don't believe you can ever have a completely shiny clean slate in your life except for when you're born. Or maybe when you fake your own death, get plastic surgery and live in a different country under a different identity, and even then, your past stays with you in your memories and your personality. But let's say most of the things on my slate have been cleared off and it's been wiped down with a dishcloth. Most importantly, the person holding the slate - me - is re-energized and ready to deal with what comes next, and has learned from the things that were on the slate before. I really need to let this metaphor go.

I foresee myself doing a lot more blogging in 2015, as well as making videos on my YouTube channel. Beyond it being a personal choice, I'm going to be an official student blogger for my University this spring semester, and I think that will really get the creative juices flowing. Also, I'll be doing my own Project 365, inspired by Kaylah's post, and I'll be posting my daily photos each week.

There will also be a renewed effort to make the rest of Pride and Prejudice into screencap posts.

All over, this year I want to work harder, listen to more music, do more, go on more adventures, find new things I haven't done before, and say yes more often: to others, to opportunities, to myself. Basically, I want to live my life more.

Yes, I'll still be featuring music at the end of posts. This one is possible the most almost-country song I've ever actually liked. And I like it a lot. (I know it's hardly even country at all, that's my point.)

Arson

I have a problem.

It's called confrontation.

Mostly, it presents itself when somebody asks me something about myself that I haven't actively determined yet.

"What's your favourite book? Favourite movie? What's the nicest place you've visited?"

And suddenly I blank. I am an illiterate bookstore worker who's never even seen a video and who has never left her house. I literally have no recollection of any book, movie or place I've ever experienced. Actually.

And in situations like that, I can mostly blow it off as, "Oh, you know, there are still so many books I want to read, as a bookstore worker it's really hard because you'll never have enough time... Oh, I just like movies in general, I quite liked [most recently released movie title]... Well, I've really been all over the place..."

Applications? Not so easy to do that.

I don't think I've ever known a phrase so horrible and terrifying as DESCRIBE YOURSELF TO THE COMMITTEE. That's a terrible question. I hate the committee. I do not want the committee to know me. The committee can't HANDLE the truth. Fight the man.

Of course, not only do I have to talk about myself (ugh), I have to make myself sound fancy (double ugh) and good (not possible. Also, ugh). Quite a few scholarships hang on this.

Arson is sounding like a really nice option.

No seriously, on top of all this, they want me to "include a description of your passions and motivations and explain how they relate to your educational plans and goals."

Kill me.

"I am        um           ...       ...uh.

I can't even come up with a mock/informal/joke description of myself. I literally cannot talk about myself. I can maybe force myself to talk about my experiences, something very, very specific about myself or put a lot of myself into a character. But describing myself or talking about myself is actually not possible. I simply don't know how.

I was hoping that writing would get... I don't know, something rolling. But no such luck.

Scruffy-lookin' Nerf Herder

It's NaNoWriMo Eve! Better known as Halloween, of course. Unfortunately, I have had to opt out of dong NANo this year... it makes me feel really bad that I gave up before I even started, but it's just not a reality for me this year. Heck, I haven't even had a single minute to do any planning, and it's not getting quieter around here any time soon. However, if I can, I do want to use it as motivation to write more. I really need to.

My Halloween costume for this year has to be one of my favourites. Out with the blonde (and the boobs), in with the brown, I'm Han Solo for a day! Alas, I have neither a Chewie nor a Leia, but fortunately my best friend dressed up as Vader and I have two other friends who dressed up as Luke and a Stormtrooper, respectively. It's great.

I totally look this sexy today. Totally.

Tonight we're going to "Darth Vader"'s house and playing Assassin's Creed III. And when I say playing, I mean my friends will be playing and I'll be watching because I suck. At video games, that is.

Also, I'll be attempting to make cupcakes to bring! I hope I can get it together in time. If I can, they should look something like this:

The Cold Clouds my Judgment

Remember that time, not at all very long ago, that I said I needed to free up my schedule and get on top of things? Well,...

I mean, they say every person is a maze of contradictions, right? Although in my case, it seems that the largest contradiction is that I want to go to university and yet I'm apparently a moron.

I must be doing right, because this November I'll be facing two of my greatest fears: writing and stress. Writing itself isn't scary for me, I guess, but putting down a goal (and what a whopping goal it is, Heaven help me), coming up with an idea and then writing it down in its entirety, petrifies me. You guessed it, folks: I'm attempting NaNoWriMo.

Why, why, WHYYYYY???!! I already don't have any time, how on Earth do I expect to do this?

My plan for this adventure: Cut out all TV except Castle and OUAT. Catch up on others over winter break. Cut down tumblr, only allowing enough for avoiding withdrawal. Write for an hour a day during the week. Write all afternoon on Saturdays. Do nothing but write on Sundays. Write as close as possible to 10,000 words on Sundays. Do not write at all on days that we have a show. Do not write on Fridays (I work). Do any homework possible during spares. If done homework in spares, write. Abolish social life. Do not worry about quality or even coherency. Take at least half an hour of free time to do absolutely nothing every day. Take breaks when writing: Hourly, between 5 and 15 minutes each, use these to fulfill basic human needs. Do not sacrifice anything in my life (responsibilities, relationships, etc.) for this. Survive, somehow.

Now, to come up with what the heck I want to write about...
